Suresh Naganathan

Switzerland - 1980

I am a street and documentary photographer based in Mumbai, India. Born in Switzerland in 1980, I relocated to India in 2008, reconnecting with the country of my parents. Immersed in the intensity, noise, and density of everyday life in India, I began photographing in 2014 as a way to navigate and understand the chaos around me.

For over a decade, I have explored the streets of Mumbai and beyond, developing a long-term photographic practice rooted in observation, human presence, and the emotional rhythms of urban life. My street photography and documentary work have been published internationally, including features in Creative Image Magazine and Eyeshot.

In 2022, I was selected as a winner of the Eyeshot Open Call, which led to the publication of my first photography monograph, A World Called Mumbai, released in 2024. Distributed internationally, the book is a bittersweet visual love letter to Mumbai, a city that continues to shape my vision.

In November 2025, I was awarded the Portrait Prize at the Indian Photo Festival, India’s most prestigious photography festival.

Alongside my personal projects, I regularly conduct street photography workshops in Mumbai and across India and maintain an extensive collection of photography books that inform and inspire my practice.
